Winter Break Part 2

Not a lot of information to pass along.  Meet calendar on 8to18 has been updated, and is accessible through the Glenbard West website.  I will update the google calendar shortly.

This week we will have the same schedule as last week for the swim.  Dryland will got West/South/West.

Concerning Tuesday.  The boys should know how I am handling attendance ask them.  If they don't know then they need to pay better attention.

South Elgin Results

Last night we had our first meet of the year.  While South Elgin is obviously a bit of a drive, they are a good measuring stick of how far the team has come in the past few years.  South Elgin is in their very first year of a team, and I have to believe that only 3 years ago that is where this team was....

Moving forward final score of 123-47.  We won all but 1 event.

Varsity winners were.

First Meet and First Conference Meet of the year.

First off.  Congrats to the Blue team for pulling out the win in the intersquad meet on Saturday.  Lots of solid swimming all around, but Blue team pulled it out with a bit more depth(even though they won less events).

First, morning practice this week is West on Monday and Friday.  We are at South on Wednesday.  Saturday is at the tower at 9:30am at this time.  We may have to move practice to 9am.  I will let you know.

There are 2 meets this week.  First on Tuesday we are at South Elgin high school.  The meet is scheduled to start at 5pm, I do not know if they have diving.  I have had no communication with the coach, so I have no further information.

On Friday we will be at OPRF high school.  Meet is scheduled to start at 5pm.  Should be an extremely quick meet as they are also a relatively small team and will not have diving.

For both meets the athletes need to leave immediately after school.  We will be having practice before the meet.  We will be starting practice at 3:50pm at both meets.  Being late to this practice will be the same as being late any other time and costs a loss of attendance.  For attendance purposes all meets will count as 3 hours, regardless of length.

Finally, I am not waving attendance for the first meet.  There are no athletes that would be sitting that didn't choose to miss a practice, as such there is no reason to wave it.

Break schedule.....Dryland 7:30-8:30 location TBA.  Swim 9:30-11:30.  Xmas Eve - Swim only 9:30-11:30(I am figuring out how to handle attendance here boys will be told).  Calendar has been updated.

Intersquad Week Update

Current Score through the first 3 days.

Green - 24
Blue - 11

Quick Recap- Monday we did the Relay Challenge.  Each team won 1 then the Boat Race remained undefeated.  Tuesday we ended up playing ultimate in the pool.  This is normally the highlight of the week and the boys delivered a great first half of 3-3 before Green opened it up to 7-3 in the second half.  Today we did the dryland races which came down to the very end, but Green finally pulled away in the end to net another 5 points.

For Saturday we will be running the intersquad in normal practice.  It will be treated similar to a Saturday meet warm-up and meet only.  You are welcome to come watch, but there is no deck space, so you will be stuck watching from the windows.

Quick note about next week's meets.  Everyone needs to leave immediately after school.  Once we get to the pool we will be having a practice before the meets start.

Inclement Weather Plan

For AM practices.

I will make the decision at about 5:30am.  In case of cancelling text will go to Captains who will inform the rest of the team.  I will also post on blog and facebook.

After School

Bit more complicated and will be done by ear.  Heavily dependent on if the school cancels early.

Intrasquad Week

Not a whole lot of information for me to pass along this week.  Morning Schedule is Mon-West/Wed-South/Fri-South. So without further ado...

There is no meet this week.  Hinsdale South changed the date, and I was never told.  Our first meet is next Tuesday at South Elgin.

I still don't have the Winter Break Schedule figured out.  I am waiting for a confirmation on what time we can get in the pool.  Once I have that I can figure out the gym schedule to go with it.  Any time is possible between 5am and 2:30pm.

Finally, the big news for the week.  The return of INTRASQUAD WEEK!

Schedule is as follows...
Monday - Relays
Tuesday - Trivia
Wednesday - Dryland Challenge
Thursday - Ultimate
Friday - TBA
Saturday Intrasquad meet - More Info to be coming

As a reminder, teams are for life, so all I have to do is add freshman.... Current Record = Green 1-Blue 0

State Recap and Tryout Week

Congratulations to everyone who got to be up at the State Meet.

Medley Relay added .20 seconds and ended up 29th.  We cam into the meet seeded 34th.  We nearly won our heat, which is all I can ask.

Meg dropped another .80 off of her school record in the 100 backstroke, with a 58.01.  She ended up 19th, a mere .54 away from earning a trip to finals. She came into the meet seeded 38th.

After the meet was over everyone went to Five Guys.......much fun was had by all, except Coach Jenkins, who is likely now scarred for life.

Boys

Tryouts are this week.

Athletes must attend 3 of the 4 practices before the Time Trial to be eligible.
Time Trial will be used to calculate teams, it is purely a math equation.
Monday and Tuesday are from 3:20p-5:20p at the Tower
Wednesday is 5:30a-7:30a at the tower
Friday is 2p-4p at the tower(sorry this is the latest they will let us in)
Sunday Time Trials 2-4p at Bensenville

Look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow.

State Information

Congrats to everyone for yet another solid Sectional performance.  A few minor changes and the whole day could have been very different.  Great day overall, and a good wrap to the season.

State information.  We currently have 8 tickets, with the expectation we will get 2 more.  The order of priority goes...

Parents
Seniors
Extended Family
Juniors/Soph/Fresh

I need to know who wants tickets ASAP.  Each ticket is $20.  Unlike in years past there will likely be a large number of extra tickets available for purchase. They are not selling extra tickets they must be scalped.  Anyone who doesn't get one of our tickets and wants to go is encouraged to get to New Trier very early on Friday and try to get a ticket.  It is one of the most unique(and bizarre) meets in the country, and an experience worth going to.

Bus will be leaving at about 10:45am.  We will be stopping for lunch along the way(likely Panera).  Warm-ups start at 2pm.  Meet starts at 3:30pm.  I believe the medley relay is the very first heat.  After we are done we will be going out to dinner(Five Guys likely).

Sectional Information

So tomorrow is the culmination of 13 weeks of gruelingly hard work and endless hours of practice.  Going to just bulletpoint it to keep it easier to read

Diving Warm-ups 7:30am

Diving starts 9am

Bus leaves 10:50am from South

Warm-ups start at 11:30am.

Meet starts at 1pm.

Parking is going to be a huge issue.  EVERYONE must park in the parking lot on Main Street, the east side of the school, if that is full there is limited parking around the high school.  They will have someone directing you to the pool from that building entrance.  I encourage everyone to get there early this year.  We have 2-3 more teams at Sectionals than usual so the bleachers will be very hard to come by.

Check back in the morning if I forgot anything.

Remainder of week is 3:20-done.

We will have a bus, don't know where we are leaving from yet.  Will be leaving around 10:45-11am.

Conference Information

Sorry for the late post, but been trying to figure everything out for tomorrow.

First, please maintain a fairly normal sleep schedule tonight.  No one should be sleeping absurdly late.  Also make sure to eat a full breakfast, as well as bring a good bit of snack food.

Bus for the conference taper group will be leaving at 11:45am from Glenbard South.  This is a change due to I can't get the bus as early as planned.  I will be reiterating this to the girls tonight.  People driving themselves need to be on deck at 12:15p.

Warm-ups start at 12:30p
Meet starts at 2p

Athletes do not have to ride the bus home, but I need to know ASAP so I am not searching for kids after the meet.

The Suit Post

PRACTICE ON WEDNESDAY 10/16 IS AT SOUTH IN THE AM!!! Sorry for typo.

Moving onto suits.  For people that don't know "suits" are the high tech suits that all the swimmers in the Olympics, and most major competitions wear.  The provide a huge advantage over regular suits as the reduce drag and reduce muscle vibration, which is a leading cause of muscle fatigue.  For more detailed information on suits I suggest you read back to some of the older blog posts.  I don't want to say they are required, but to fail to wear one at a championship meet is leaving a large amount of time on the table.  Last year I don't believe that a single individual point was scored at Sectionals by a girl in a regular suit.  They aren't required, but I do want everyone to have one.  There is no one suit that is best for everyone,  the suit that is best for each swimmer is the one that fits the best.  The price points and explanations of the suits below.

Side note:  there are now colors available.  Only Black/Blue/Green are allowed.

BlueSeventy Nero(TX $255/14 $319)
This is hands down my favorite suit, and has been for years.  They are just as good as the bigger brand name suits and they are substantially more durable.  I believe a swimmer recently wore a suit for 11 days of swim meet!  The biggest disadvantage of the suit is they are cut for girl's with a slighter build.  Try this on first!

Speedo LZR Elite($250 for colors/$225 for black)
This is a solid suit for girls that can fill it.  They are notoriously too big on girls with a slight figure.  I have nothing to complain about on these suits, they are just not as durable as B70s.

Speedo LZR Pro($156)
This is a LARGE step below the above suits, but still a completely viable option.  The above suits are heat sealed, this is stitched, which creates more drag.  The stitching also creates thousands of tiny holes in the suits, once again more drag.  This is hands down the best stitched suit on the market, but please understand it is still a step below the other suits.  PLEASE NOTE: if you go with this suit make sure it is a very tight fit.  Any extra fabric creates a huge problem with these suits for some reason.

Arena Carbon Pro(Have to ask me)
This is the best suit on the market, PERIOD.  However, I do not recommend them due to their price point.  If you wish to know the price please email me and I will let you know.

Finally, if someone has an old suit they wish to use.  They need to bring it in to practice and I will test it for them.

Andrew Recap, Senior Week Preview

So first off, that was a pleasant surprise.  I always go into that meet trying to fill 2 objectives, seeing who should be swimming what at Sectionals, and a distant second is to win.  To accomplish both goals, despite the line-up being less than ideal, is a huge accomplishment.  I want to make sure everyone understands something as well, we were the fastest B relay in all 3 relay events, and not by a small margin.  The closest B relay to us was 10, 6, and 18 seconds behind us.  This won us the meet.  I preach about how I expect everyone to be competing for spots, and how despite the pressure the puts on people the results it can get.  I believe winning a meet where the second place team won twice as many events as us speaks volumes to people "buying in" and a great support structure of parents and upperclassmen. So thanks to everyone who has helped set this program up, got to love beating people with 10 lanes at their disposal nightly.

Friday we are West in the morning.  Friday afternoon, the girls have a normal practice from 3:20-4:45.  The meet vs. St. Francis will start at 6:05pm.  They must be in suits and on deck at BR Ryall YMCA at 5:50pm.  Saturday we are from 9:30-11:30am at the tower.

Saturday we are at the Andrew Invite, in Tinley Park.  Girls are to be there at 8:45am, meet starts at 10am.  This is traditionally one of the more important meets on our schedule, so I am looking for some good swimming.

Finally, the girls requested a change in practice time for Monday and Tuesday.  I have arranged to have practice much earlier in the day, so that everyone could take the afternoons to do non-swimming things.  Sorry for late notice, but didn't think about it until the girls requested a time change.

Andrew Week

Not much information to pass on right now, but still wanted to make sure everyone was up to speed on everything they need to know.

Thursday night's meet is at Downer's Grove North.  We will be warming up at 3:30pm.  Meet starts at 5pm.

Saturday we are at the Andrew Invite.  This is probably the most competitive meet we go to for our team all year.  This is a limited entry meet,  all athletes competing should know who they are.  Athletes need to be ready to warm-up at 8:45 am.  Meet starts at 10am.

I will get information out about tech suits sometime this week.

York Recap

Last night we had our second conference meet of the year.  I felt like the girls competed very well, and we had a number of best times to support that opinion.  I feel like we could have been very competitive with them if we wanted to be, I just felt it wasn't worth the stress in the middle of a long stretch of training.  We did end up losing by 136-49.

Meet Week Recap and Indoors We Go!

So first, want to recap the 2 meets from last week.

We lost to OP-RF 97-73.  While we didn't swim our best events, we did swim a very good line-up.  Unfortunately, this is our biggest lost to them ever.  We did have a large number of good swims, but obviously we are slowly falling behind.  We had 3 event victories, Meg in the 200, Joy in the 200 IM, and Marina in the fly.  The following had team best swims...

Jenny
Amy
Maddy Bradley
Skyler
Claire
Kathryn
Olivia
Hera
Maddie Short
Maddy Skirvin

Our next 2 days were spent at the Wildcat Championships.  This is one of my favorite meets of the year and a meet in which we turn in a large number of season best and lifetime best swims.  We had a very, very good Friday night were almost everyone improved upon their seeds, both in time and in placement.  We were only allowed 2 finals swimmers per event.  Though there were some events were we had 4 people that could have finalled, there were also a couple of events where we only had 1 person final.  Overall, I was happy with our prelims effort, but we still have a TON of room for improvement.  Saturday, we moved up even further.  Something like 66% of our swims from prelims to finals were an improvement.  We ended up 4th at the meet, but realistically should have finished in 3rd.  We still have a lot of work to do on finishing races and finishing meets in a proper fashion.  Swimmers who had team best swims over both days were...

Jenny
Amy
Skyler
Claire
Maddy Skirvin

Calendar has been updated to reflect the actual start time of practice this week at the tower.  We will be starting at 3:20pm.  I feel this is more than fair as I have made the drive in 17 minutes on more than 1 occasion in the past week, so I feel this gives all the girls 15 minutes to get from car to in the water(more than enough).  We will still be having dryland on Tuesday and Thursday after practice.

Morning schedule is as follows, Monday is at West, Wednesday is at South, Friday is at West.  Morning attendance has been abysmal of late, so I would like to see an increase.

Thursday night our meet is at York HS.  Warm-ups will start at 3:30pm, meet starts at 5pm.  Diving is the first event(go Sarah!).

Saturday we have practice from 12-2 at Bensenville.  Need a full course to allow for an opportunities to qualify for the Andrew Invite.

Final Week in the Sun

I got 2 big topics of conversation to hit on this week.

First, this is our final week outside in the sun.  We have been fairly fortunate this year that the pool has never gotten too cold, but they do still need to drain the pool and clean it before it gets too cold out.  Starting next Monday September 30th, we will be indoors.  I will be updating the calendar as we go about the practice schedule once we get indoors.  Please note we will be at Bensenville on Saturday October 5th from 12-2pm.  This is a big day for training and we need the full 25 yard pool.

Second, we have 3 meets this week.  Thursday night everyone will be swimming at OP-RF.  I understand this is the longest/hardest drive of the season, however we will be starting "warm-up" at 3:45pm.  Everyone needs to leave IMMEDIATELY after school.  There were far too many people not arriving at Bensenville on time with a far easier drive.

The Wildcat Championship is on Friday and Saturday.  This is the only prelim-final meet we compete in all season(except for state).  Friday night we will be swimming the individual events,  however we are limited to only 4 entries per event.  Saturday is the finals, including relays,  new this year is we will be limited to only 2 people per event in finals.  This means you could finish 8th in prelims(top 12 final) but be 3rd from our team and not get to swim in finals on Saturday.  I will have the final meet roster at practice on Monday.

For attendance on Friday and Saturday.  Obviously, everyone swimming on Friday is required to be there, I am also going to require anyone who swam on Friday to be at the meet on Saturday.  This is 1 meet, everyone who swims on day 1 should be there on day 2!  Athletes who are not competing on Friday or Saturday SHOULD come to the meet.  Anyone who is not competing in the meet will be given 3 hours of bonus attendance.

Please let me know if there are any questions.  Monday AM - West.  Wednesday/Friday AM - South

Lyons Recap and Weekly Update

So first off the Lyons Relay Meet.  Overall I am very pleased with how everyone swam on Saturday at the meet.  We ended up 8th, but to be honest that meet isn't about where the team finishes.  Girl's were much better about being vocal and cheering for their teammates, but could still use a little bit of room for improvement.  I also introduced tempos to the girls, which will be starting to get used regularly in practice as the season progresses.  So without further ado, the Team Best Times from Saturday were...

Skyler
Claire
Paige
Hera
Vicky
Maddie Short

Moving on to the next week.  It is going to be cold.  Unfortunately for the girls, there isn't anything we can do about it.  We will still be outside this week, and next week through next Wednesday.  As long as the pump at Butterfield doesn't explode we will be swimming there.  I have already done everything I can to try and keep the pool warm for the girls.

Standard practice schedule this week.  Monday and Friday AM are at West.  Wednesday AM is at South.

Please keep an eye on the calendar as we start to go inside, as there will be a number of small changes to accommodate the different space.

Fenton Review and Lyons Preview

Wanted to write a quick review from Tuesday night's meet.  Obviously, they are fairly low level team, but I am extremely proud of how the girls still raced hard and put together a really good meet despite the lack of competition.

We won the meet 135-35.  Please don't expect to see that type of scoreline again.

Congratulations to everyone with a team best time.  For reference I know there are a ton of times from USA swimming and summer league that are better than these times, but I don't keep them in my database so can't compare easily.

The following had team best times.

Katie A.
Amy
Meg
Courtney
Brandi
Skyler
Claire
Kathryn
Olivia
Paige
Annie
Vicky
Marina
Maddie Short

We have our first "invite" on Saturday.  Please be at Lyons South High School and ready to swim by 7:45am.  We will be doing a "warm-up" similar to Tuesday night before the meet.  There are a number of top tier teams at the relay meet and it is a great opportunity to see some early season top tier swimming.  I expect the girls to be much louder than Tuesday and to enjoy the atmosphere.

First Meet's This WEEK!

So I posted a fairly lengthy update on Friday about the meets this week.  If you haven't read it please go to the previous post and read it before continuing.

I have basically finalized the entries for both meets this week.  If a swimmer is going to miss a meet I need to know ASAP.  Tuesday night starts at 5pm.  Saturday starts at 9am.

Please note for Saturday.  I wanted to make sure that everyone got a swim in at Lyons.  Unfortunately that means a lot of people are only going to be swimming 1 event.  Due to the nature of the meet that means some of the swims are odd events.  For example they have a 100 Free Relay, where each swimmer will only get a 25.  Regardless of the event, I will be using every single time in the team database via extrapolating the correct time.  I expect the girls to be loud and to have some fun with the meet.

Finally, practice Friday morning is cancelled.  Congratulations to the girls whom for the first time ever hit a team challenge swim.

Next Weeks Meets

Wanted to talk to everyone very briefly about meets for next week.

First, everyone is swimming in both meets.  Please note these are the ONLY 2 meets where I will not be enforcing the attendance policies.  Due to the early nature of the season, a slight illness is carrying too much weight at this time.

Everyone will be swimming a full line up on Tuesday at the Fenton meet.  Having talked to the coach we are expecting for the entire meet to last less than 90 minutes.

Next Saturday at Lyons is a Relay meet.  Due to the nature of the meet, and the fact that the girls seem to really enjoy the meet everyone will be swimming.  Due to the nature of the meet, limited entry, a number of girls will only be swimming 1 time.  The meet is more about team that it is about times(some exceptions) so I wanted to make sure everyone gets a chance to be there and experience it.

I have updated the calendar with the start times for each meet.  Tuesday athletes are to be ready to swim by 3:30 at the Bensenville Pool.  Saturday all athletes will be starting warm-up at 7:45.  Finally, attendance is taken at meets, with each meet being listed as a 3 hour practice.

Anyone who will be unable to attend a meet needs to let me know ASAP.

Intersquad Meet Attempt 2

So after Mother Nature veto'd have the intersquad meet on Saturday, we will be running the meet during standard practice on Tuesday.

There is very little to update on as this is a very standard week without much going on.  New equipment came in the mail on Saturday so we will be starting to integrate that into practice this week.  We have morning weights on Wednesday at South and Friday at West.  South Entrance has already been discovered, and I am working on getting a key card.  West practices will be at Biester Gym, the same location as the pictures.  Enter through the same doors and head down stairs to the basement.  We start in the fieldhouse which is the very back of the building.

I will add the final intersquad scores tomorrow night.

Second, Snake game Green got 6 Blue got 3
Finally, Knot game Green should have gotten negative points, but Blue won for 5 points

Blue - 42
Green - 42

We will be starting the day with 0-0 scoreline.

Slightly Overdue Update

Slightly......

So we have had 3 more events this week in the Intersquad Week Challenge.

First, on Tuesday we did 3 relays.  Despite the Blue team dominating 2 of the 3 relays, fatal errors cost them in both and Green came away with 4 points.  We also did the Boat relay.....New Score Blue 18 - Green 26

On Wednesday we played water ultimate.  I am very glad I don't have to worry about Polo in the spring...  Green earned 7 points Blue earned 3.  New Score Blue 21 - Green 33

Finally, on Thursday we did a dryland race.  Despite some solid running from the green team, final score of Blue 8 and 3 for Green.  New Score Blue 29 - Green 36

So going into the final day of random activities(videos will follow) the score is...

BLUE - 29
GREEN - 36

Hope to see everyone on Saturday.

Intersquad Week

Congratulations to everyone who survived the first, and easiest, week.  Calendar for this week is correct and calendar through the end of September should be updated by practice tomorrow.  Please note 2 things.  First, we are starting 15 minutes earlier this year.  This will be a non-issue while at Butterfield but I will keep an eye on it once we go indoors.  Second, we will be having AM practice on Friday morning.  I personally feel it is a much less steep learning curve if the first morning is followed by a long weekend. Friday AM practice will be at South.  Enter through the tunnel opposite the practice football/baseball fields, door 19.  Please note at South I have to lock the door behind me and I walk in the door at 6am.

To help spice up the first week of school we will be commencing the 4th annual intersquad week.  This is one of the most fun weeks of the year for the kids, and something that comes with a small sweet prize at the end.  The teams will be for the remainder of the athletes HS careers.  Traditionally this has worked out well, and something I personally love.  I will try to update scores from the daily events as the week goes.

Weekly Schedule

Monday-Trivia
Tuesday-Stupid Relays
Wednesday-Water Games
Thursday-Dryland Races
Friday-Super-Secret-Surprise
Saturday-MEET!

Due to the meet on Saturday practice is open.  That said be ready to work if you come.

Finally, the Teams

Team Meeting and Calendar Update

The team meeting is tonight at 5:15pm.    Please be on time as I want to be done before the crowd starts to show up for the all sports meeting.   The meeting will be in room 322,  enter through the main entrance, turn left and you can't miss it.

The attendance sheet is posted under the attendance tab.  Please check all spelling and grades of athletes.  I want to make sure everything is correct before setting it on the team database.

The calendar is getting updated today.  Please check it and let me know if/when I make a mistake.

First Week of the Girls 2013 Season

So welcome to the first blog post of the new swim season.  Not a whole lot of information to post since we will be having a parent meeting on Wednesday, but wanted to get some of the basic rules out of the way.

First, I take attendance daily.  Each individual athletes attendance is calculated based upon the number of hours they attend.  I will round all absences to the nearest half hour.  Athletes must have 90% attendance to be eligible to compete in meets.  There are functionally no excused absences, however I am realistic.

Regardless of reason for missing practice, I must receive an email before practice starts alerting me that an athlete will be missing.  If I do not receive an email the athlete will not receive an excused absence.

Any athlete who is late to practice will lose attendance.  Late is defined as more than 90 seconds from me starting practice.  I will never start practice early, though some announcements will be done prior to practice on occasion.

All athletes need to have proper dryland clothes for any practice with dryland.  Proper clothes consist of a shirt, school legal shorts, and running shoes.

Practice is over whenever we are done.  The ending time listed for practices is approximate.

Wednesday night is the parent meeting.  We will be at Glenbard West at approximately 5:15pm.  Further updates once we know what room.  Immediately following the team meeting the required parent meeting will happen in the school auditorium.

Sectional Roster & Conference Recap

Before we get into a recap the following are continuing to practice for Sectionals

Cole Bridgman
Noah Brunner
Tim Coutre
Quin Crisman
Bryce Dibadj
Michael Hsu
Michal Junik
Neil Livingston
Ben Shaver
Matt Wenta
Nick Yangas

Congrats all.

Now for the conference recap.  We ended up 3rd in the F/S division and 6th in the Varsity division.  We could have easily gotten 5th in Varsity, however all our underclassmen swam down.  We had 1 event winner in Michael Hsu F/S 200 IM.  The following earned F/S All-Conference.

Quin Crisman
Ryan Holm
Neil Livingston
Matt Wenta
Michael Hsu
Noah Brunner
Barry Livingston

We had no JV or Varsity All-Conference.

Every single Taper swimmer went a season best time, with an average improvement of...4.63%.  Which I believe is a new record.  Congrats to everyone for surviving what for most everyone was their first season swimming for the program.  I will be posting the updated top 10 list over the next couple of days as I get time.

Conference Info

Going to try and keep this as brief as possible.  The most important information for everyone is....

The bus for the Conference Taper will leave at 10:45am from Glenbard South.  All Athletes should be there at 11:15am.  The meet will start at 1pm.  The meet could last as much as 5 hours, this is a very long meet.

Hinsdale has asked that all spectators either check coats or leave them in their cars.  They are expecting to be beyond capacity on Saturday and every bit of extra space helps.

If you have any other questions please let me know.

Conference Week

I will post an update of how the meets went tomorrow night or Tuesday morning, so putting a place holder.

This is the final week for the Conference Taper kids.  Conference Taper has no morning practice this week.  They have no dryland after practice on Thursday.  They will have normal swimming all this week.

Sectional group has morning practice on Monday(west) and Wednesday(south).  They have both drylands after swim this week.  Standard swimming practice.

We will be taking a bus to conference, however we only have a single 14 seat bus.  Therefore, the only people who will be riding the bus are the Conference Taper group.  We will be leaving at approx. 10:45am.  I will update with the exact time after the coaches meeting on Wednesday.  Everyone needs to be there by 11:30am.

Metea Line-up

The following are swimming Saturday at Metea.

Cole Bridgman
Drew Breun
Noah Brunner
Tim Coutre
Quin Crisman
Bryce Dibadj
Ryan Holm
Michael Hsu
Marc Isaac
Michal Junik
Barry Livingston
Neil Livingston
Ben Shaver
CJ Szabo
Matt Wenta
Michael Yangas
Nick Yangas

Also so everyone is aware, I will not be there.  There has been an issue that has come up with the club team and I need to be at that meet on Saturday.  This is the only conflict where the club will, or has, taken precedence this year.  Once again apologies.

Tech Suit Update

Swimmer's Edge has gotten the tech suit prices too me.  They are as follows...

Speedo LZR Pro(the gold stictching) - $145

Speedo LZR Elite(the panels) - $208

Blue70 NeroTX(the older model) - $170

There are other brands and other models, but these are the 3 most well known and most accessible to use.

I encourage everyone go to Swimmer's Edge and try on a suit before you buy.  I also suggest everyone go ASAP to get this done.

I will post the Metea roster tonight.  Many kids are on the bubble of being ineligible due to attendance.

4 Weeks till Sectionals

Want to start off with a quick recap of our performance from over the weekend.  On Friday we visited Lyons, the sight of our Sectional this year, and lost by a score of 128 - 41.  The following won an event.

Michael Hsu

Team Best Times were...

Quin Crisman, Michal Junik, Matt Wenta, Michael Hsu, Christian Landreth, Barry Livingston, Ben Shaver, Noah Brunner, Jake Herlihy, Drew Breun, Neil Livingston, Ryan Holm, Michael Yangas, Nick Yangas, Marc Isaac, and Tim Coutre

Saturday we participated in our first Invite of the season at Hinsdale Central.  While we finished 8th, I was very pleased with our performance.  We had 1 medalist

Ben Shaver

Team Best Times were...

Matt Wenta, Quin Crisman, Cole Bridgman, Michal Junik, Ryan Holm, Bryce Dibadj, Nick Yangas, Neil Livingston, Ben Shaver, Jake Herlihy, and Drew Breun

Now then, moving on.  We are going to start breaking into our taper groups.I will discuss this with the boys tomorrow morning.  Kids that will be tapering for Conference will have no morning practice on Friday, they also have no morning practice at all next week.  The Conference kids will have normal practice the remainder of the week.  Sectional group will have Friday morning practice at West.

We have 2 meets this week.  Friday we are at Hinsdale Central.  We will be celebrating both our Seniors and the Hinsdale Central Seniors.  Unfortunately, we were unable to get a Senior Night with St. Francis organized this year due to a number of circumstances.  Hopefully, the new coach will work with us in the future.  All athletes need to head to HC immediately after school.  The Sectional group will get in upon arrival and do a practice, the Conference group will warm-up at 4:15pm.

The Saturday meet is at Metea Valley High School.  Warm-ups will start at 8:30am.  Please arrive at 8:15am.  At this time I am expecting all athletes to be competing in this meet.  I will post the roster on Tuesday evening.

Finally, tech suits.  I am working on getting preferred prices for all of our championship suits.  If you don't know what I am talking about please read back through old blog posts as I have gone into excruciating detail in the past on why they matter.  The simplified version is tech suits are the equivalent of legal cheating.  I expect ALL athletes to have some form of tech suits at their respective championship meets.  I have warned the boys about the absurd cost of these suits.  There are 3 preferred options for suits.

Speedo LZR pro - AKA the suit with the gold stitching.  The cheapest option.  This suit is perfectly fine.  However, please try it on and makes sure that it is very snug as they tend to parachute if too big.  Very snug=very uncomfortable

Speedo LZR elite - AKA the panel suit.  Unlike the gold suit this is a bonded barely permeable material suit. The difference in cost is an option for some.  Solid suit from the 800 pound gorilla of a company in the swimming market.

Blue Seventy Nero TX - AKA the durable suit.  This is my favorite suit, possibly ever(with the exception of the JAKED, but that is another story).  Most tech suits last approximate 4-5 days of competition.  The Blue Seventy lasts upwards of 10(if properly maintained).  It is a good suit that while not as fancy as other brands is just about as good.

I know I just bombarded people with information, so PLEASE EMAIL ME QUESTIONS!!!!

Matt Wenta
Nick Yangas

Anyone who is not swimming is encouraged to be there at 1pm.  They will receive bonus attendance for being there.

Finals Week Post

Quick update on the plan for the week.

Morning practice on Monday is at West.  I am trying to have practice on Wednesday morning at South.  If we do have practice, it is optional.  I will not be taking attendance Wednesday morning.  I offer because I know there are a handful of boys whom have no, or only 1 final Wednesday.

Friday we will have a 3 hours practice in the morning, just like over Winter Break, I need to see what time we can get into both the pool and weightrooms.  The Lyons meet is an afternoon meet as well.  Therefore everyone needs to be at Lyons by 4pm, and we will get in shortly thereafter.

Saturday we have our first limited entry meet of the season.  If your child is swimming in the Saturday meet at Hinsdale please plan on having them at the pool by 11:45am, meet will start at 1pm.

Finally, we have 3 weeks until conference.  Please start planning on buying a tech suit in the near future.  I will updated this week with more details once I get a better idea on prices.

Weekly Update 2013 - Part 1

Wanted to just re-up on the blog to get people caught up.

First, mornings this week will go West/South/West.  There is one minor change to Monday AM.  We will be starting at 6:05am on Monday.  The other 2 mornings will start at 6am.

Practice for Saturday is tentatively at 9am at the tower.  I do not plan on making any changes.

Meet on Tuesday at DGN.  This is our biggest mid-season meet, mostly because I haven't been able to find a Saturday meet for this weekend yet.  Boys need to bring their warm-ups and an all business attitude.  For reference, I suggest the boys talk to any girls swimmers they know and say I am treating this as Andrew Invite, they will know.  We will also be redoing the team pictures on Tuesday, everyone must have warm-ups to be in the pictures.
