Moving forward we are going to begin prepping for Conference this week.  Athletes whose target meet is Conference will start to rest up for the conference meet.  The conference groups final AM practice is on Wednesday.  Sectional group has standard practice schedule this week, AM goes W/S/S.

All athletes should be planning on wearing suits at conference.  At this moment everyone is suiting up in some capacity.

Hinsdale warm-ups will be starting at 3:45pm.  Meet starts at 5pm.

Metea warm-ups will be start at 8:30am.  Meet starts at 10am.

I need to know if anyone is going to be missing Metea ASAP.

The Suit Post

PRACTICE ON WEDNESDAY 10/16 IS AT SOUTH IN THE AM!!! Sorry for typo.

Moving onto suits.  For people that don't know "suits" are the high tech suits that all the swimmers in the Olympics, and most major competitions wear.  The provide a huge advantage over regular suits as the reduce drag and reduce muscle vibration, which is a leading cause of muscle fatigue.  For more detailed information on suits I suggest you read back to some of the older blog posts.  I don't want to say they are required, but to fail to wear one at a championship meet is leaving a large amount of time on the table.  Last year I don't believe that a single individual point was scored at Sectionals by a girl in a regular suit.  They aren't required, but I do want everyone to have one.  There is no one suit that is best for everyone,  the suit that is best for each swimmer is the one that fits the best.  The price points and explanations of the suits below.

Side note:  there are now colors available.  Only Black/Blue/Green are allowed.

BlueSeventy Nero(TX $255/14 $319)
This is hands down my favorite suit, and has been for years.  They are just as good as the bigger brand name suits and they are substantially more durable.  I believe a swimmer recently wore a suit for 11 days of swim meet!  The biggest disadvantage of the suit is they are cut for girl's with a slighter build.  Try this on first!

Speedo LZR Elite($250 for colors/$225 for black)
This is a solid suit for girls that can fill it.  They are notoriously too big on girls with a slight figure.  I have nothing to complain about on these suits, they are just not as durable as B70s.

Speedo LZR Pro($156)
This is a LARGE step below the above suits, but still a completely viable option.  The above suits are heat sealed, this is stitched, which creates more drag.  The stitching also creates thousands of tiny holes in the suits, once again more drag.  This is hands down the best stitched suit on the market, but please understand it is still a step below the other suits.  PLEASE NOTE: if you go with this suit make sure it is a very tight fit.  Any extra fabric creates a huge problem with these suits for some reason.

Arena Carbon Pro(Have to ask me)
This is the best suit on the market, PERIOD.  However, I do not recommend them due to their price point.  If you wish to know the price please email me and I will let you know.

Finally, if someone has an old suit they wish to use.  They need to bring it in to practice and I will test it for them.

Andrew Recap, Senior Week Preview

So first off, that was a pleasant surprise.  I always go into that meet trying to fill 2 objectives, seeing who should be swimming what at Sectionals, and a distant second is to win.  To accomplish both goals, despite the line-up being less than ideal, is a huge accomplishment.  I want to make sure everyone understands something as well, we were the fastest B relay in all 3 relay events, and not by a small margin.  The closest B relay to us was 10, 6, and 18 seconds behind us.  This won us the meet.  I preach about how I expect everyone to be competing for spots, and how despite the pressure the puts on people the results it can get.  I believe winning a meet where the second place team won twice as many events as us speaks volumes to people "buying in" and a great support structure of parents and upperclassmen. So thanks to everyone who has helped set this program up, got to love beating people with 10 lanes at their disposal nightly.

DGN Update, Andrew Information

Last night we went to perennial power DGN for our dual meet.  We ended up losing by 116-45.  Overall a pretty frustrating evening.  I was happy with a bunch of good racing against a top 3 team in the state though.  Moving on to the event winners...

Saturday we are at the Andrew Invite, in Tinley Park.  Girls are to be there at 8:45am, meet starts at 10am.  This is traditionally one of the more important meets on our schedule, so I am looking for some good swimming.

Finally, the girls requested a change in practice time for Monday and Tuesday.  I have arranged to have practice much earlier in the day, so that everyone could take the afternoons to do non-swimming things.  Sorry for late notice, but didn't think about it until the girls requested a time change.

Andrew Week

Not much information to pass on right now, but still wanted to make sure everyone was up to speed on everything they need to know.

Thursday night's meet is at Downer's Grove North.  We will be warming up at 3:30pm.  Meet starts at 5pm.

Saturday we are at the Andrew Invite.  This is probably the most competitive meet we go to for our team all year.  This is a limited entry meet,  all athletes competing should know who they are.  Athletes need to be ready to warm-up at 8:45 am.  Meet starts at 10am.

I will get information out about tech suits sometime this week.

York Recap

Last night we had our second conference meet of the year.  I felt like the girls competed very well, and we had a number of best times to support that opinion.  I feel like we could have been very competitive with them if we wanted to be, I just felt it wasn't worth the stress in the middle of a long stretch of training.  We did end up losing by 136-49.

Congrats to the event winner.
